BHC Press To Publish Gary Morgenstein's New Novel A Mound Over Hell

BHC Press To Publish Gary Morgenstein’s Provocative New Novel A MOUND OVER HELL

GARY MORGENSTEIN: Why did you write a science fiction-baseball novel?

Baseball and science fiction are two of my great loves, along with being a political junkie and a history buff. Combining baseball and science fiction is very rare, although all the sci-fi peeps point out there was an episode on “Deep Space Nine.” I don’t want to claim my novel is the first, but it certainly re-imagines the genre. Since baseball is so old-fashioned, science fiction writers don’t think it’ll make the cut into the future As a lifelong baseball fan (the Yankees are my team), I wanted to turn things upside, making baseball represent what America once was – for which it is reviled and accused of treason. The beauty of writing speculative fiction is you build upon existing events and take them to that next terrifying, thought-proving level, like Orwell’s 1984 or Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, along with a healthy dose of Philip K. Dick such as The Man in the High Castle and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. The greatness of science fiction is asking “What if?”. So what if the current conflict with Islam went horribly south and America actually lost World War Three to an ISIS-clone?
