SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Grimm 1.16 Review: "The Thing With Feathers"

By John Keegan

Grimm-2I don’t know if “Grimm” is trying to outdo “Supernatural” and “Fringe” by taking things to even greater extremes, but this was not a family-friendly episode. The force-feeding scenes were truly disturbing, from the opaque tubing to the very bird-like fluttering of Robin’s hands. Showing the preparation of the “food”, on top of it all, was just nausea-inducing.

By Christiane Elin

Fact or FakedCriteria for a case: compelling evidence, available witness and experiments to replicate the evidence. Once again the Fact or Faked team, consisting of Team Lead, Ben Hansen, Lead Scientist, Bill Murphy, Journalist, Jael de Pardo, Tech Specialist, Devin Marble Photographer, Lanisha Cole, and Stunt Expert, Austin Porter uncover the truth behind supernatural phenomena caught on video or in photos.

This season, Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files Team Lead, Ben Hansen, teases that the stereotypical definition of what is paranormal will be expanded upon. Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files returns on a new night and time on Tuesdays, 9/8c on Syfy beginning on April 17th.

Being Human (US) 2.13 Review: "It's My Party, and I'll Die If I Want To"

By John Keegan

Being-Human-icon-being-human-us-17425916-150-150After a season full of thrills and unexpected twists, the writers for “Being Human US” deliver a finale that, at least in the afterglow, might leave many scratching their heads. While none of the events seem particularly out of place, given the direction of the season up to this point, it does seem a bit underwhelming. Of course, the question is: does it simply not stand up, or pale a bit compared to what’s come before?

Recently the server on which this site resides has been under maintenence. While I'm not sure if the front end was affected much, my joomla administration panel was working incorrectly - I could not save or publish articles. It seems to be back up and running. Lost Girl 1.13 Review: "Blood Lines"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbGotta love a big finish. In that respect, the season finale of "Lost Girl" certainly delivers and makes up for the string of weaker instalments in the past few episodes. It doesn't lack for action, plot developments or characters moments, all of it played really well and all of it climaxing in the kind of finish that would make "Buffy", "Supernatural" and "Being Human" fans happy and wanting more.

Fringe 4.17 Review: "Everything In Its Right Place"

By John Keegan

Fringe-Glyphs-meu-anjo-17630623-160-160You know what they say about absence making the heart grow fonder? Well, that was certainly true in the case of Fauxlivia and the Alt-Fringe universe. While this was as much a story about Fringe Prime’s more timid Lincoln Lee finding his “right place” in the scheme of things, it was also a welcome return of the Alt-Fringe universe and its connection to the larger scope of the mutual war against David Robert Jones.

Game of Thrones 2.2 Review: "The Night Lands"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

Game_of_Thrones_iconExciting, gripping, shocking, thrilling, funny, scary--these are all words that could have been used to describe "Game of Thrones" at various points throughout its first season run. But even when it wasn't any of these things, one word continually came to mind to describe it, even in the slowest parts: "interesting". "The Night Lands" is still smack in the middle of the setup phase, and it's going to take a while for things to really get going. But even at its slowest, with the least plot progression occurring, it's still just plain interesting. I could say something to the effect of "this is as bad as 'Game of Thrones' ever gets", but the variance in quality on this show is so subtle that the remark is rendered almost meaningless.

Awake 1.6 Review: "That's Not My Penguin"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

awakereviewiconMichael's mental deterioration is accelerating at a rate that I never expected. At the very least, I thought he would grow more comfortable with the two worlds he inhabits before the rug is pulled out from under him. This episode proves that he is losing the grip he has on the situation. Being in a high-stress job like police detective doesn't help things.
