SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Grimm 2.2 Review: "The Kiss"

By John Keegan

Grimm-2I think all "Grimm" viewers were expecting that Juliette's condition was going to lead to a Sleeping Beauty scenario sooner or later. The question was less how they were intending to incorporate it into the story and more how it was going to set things up for the second season. On the whole, I'm fine with the notion that she doesn't remember Nick, thanks to Renard's little gambit, but it does run the risk of falling into cliché.

Alphas 2.5 Review: "Gaslight"

By John Keegan

alphas_iconOne of the more interesting aspects of paranormal research is experimentation with infrasound. In essence, there is a great deal of evidence demonstrating how exposure to infrasound can induce everything from general unease to paranoia to auditory and visual hallucinations, depending on the amplitude, length of exposure, and individual susceptibility. Given some of the strange acoustic effects that can be found in many of the more storied "haunted" locations, and the fact that many have heard the stories and accounts of previous visitors beforehand, it should come as no surprise that many believe that at least some experiences are the result of infrasound.

Falling Skies 2.10 Review: "A More Perfect Union"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

Falling-Skies-iconI'm just going to come out and say it directly: I was very frustrated with this season finale of "Falling Skies". It had a lot of logic holes and plotting that didn't fit with the episodes that were shown before. After watching the episode, I had a myriad of questions running through my mind, which isn't a good thing if anyone was looking for a positive impression of the episode.

Warehouse 13 4.5 Review: "No Pain, No Gain"

By John Keegan

warehouse_13_iconI was wondering if the writers were ever going to explain where the artifacts actually came from, in terms of how certain items are made or transformed. Not necessarily an in-depth explanation, since there is a certain mysticism to it that is best left untouched, but just some insight. And I've also wondered if they were ever going to follow through on the notion that Claudia was the destined next caretaker for the Warehouse.

Breaking Bad 5.6 Review: "Buyout"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

breaking_bad_iconIt is amazing to me that Walt still feels like he's been wronged, even as he declared himself the victor in the war against Gus. I think that is what has driven Walt in the episodes we've seen so far this season, and especially in this episode. We find out the source of that mindset -- something that hasn't been addressed since the first season -- here, and it does speak to the stubborness that makes Walt who he is now. He's no longer fighting a war with Gus, but he seems to at odds with nearly everyone in his life.

True Blood 5.11 Review: "Sunset"

By John Keegan

true_blood_iconIt's never a good sign when you need to write an enormously powerful character as a complete space cadet to justify why she would be easily defeated. It's even worse when the actress can't pull off the wackiness without it looking like someone from dinner theatre trying to act like someone flighty, rather than actually being someone flighty. And that's only the beginning of the illogical character choices on display in this episode.

Burn Notice 6.9 Review: "Official Business"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

burn_notice_icon“Burn Notice” continues its revival tour with some “Official Business.” Unfortunately, the returning act is the CIA’s resident knuckle-heads, Bailey and Manaro, as the officials in question. Not content with contributing to Sam’s discharge from the Navy or the mission they bumbled around in last season, they’re back to call in Fiona’s CIA marker. They need to crack a high-tech arms dealer’s safe, and Fi has the right, um, assets to gain access. As the dealer, Durov, confirms during his initial frisking/mauling.

Lost Girl 2.18 Review: "Fae-nted Love"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbThis episode of "Lost Girl" was a lazy, wholly uninteresting effort on the show's part that failed to be funny, had no tension and basically faffed the characters about for forty-five minutes without delivering anything close to a satisfying conclusion. It would seem the inconsistencies of season two are yet to be overcome, and it's all the more disappointing because episodes like the previous one prove the show is perfectly capable of doing well.
