Exclusive: Barbara Sukowa Interview Part 2

Barbara SukowaTonight on Syfy, on the eighth episode of 12 Monkeys, a big bombshell was dropped when Katarina Jones, played by Barbara Sukowa, discovered, along with the audience, that her daughter Hannah had been alive all this time. Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Cassie (Amanda Schull) had saved Hannah in the past as a child when they went back in time in the episode, but in order to preserve the timeline (and get out of the time loop they were stuck in) they had to do it in a way that Jones was unaware her daughter was alive, and therefore still created the time travel technology.

Last month, Sukowa talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about the big reveal.

The actress was happy to talk about Jones finding out Hannah was alive, though she couldn't remember exactly when she found out about it. "You know what, I have to tell you the truth. I don't remember at what point I heard about it, so I cannot tell you, because I don't remember anymore. At one point Hannah, as The Watcher, she captures me there in the hallway, and I don't know whether [Terry Matalas] told me it was her, but he might have."

Sukowa did, however, talk about how finding out the truth about Hannah will affect Jones moving forward. Hannah's death was a driving force in her work on time travel, but she will still be motivated by her daughter. "I think it still will be Hannah. What she has to deal with now is a relationship that maybe she imagined completely different. She, in her mind, was a little girl. And a little girl, a little child, is very dependent on her mother and does what the mother wants and lives like the mother lives. And then all of a sudden there's a grown up person who has lived with a completely different person, with basically the antithesis of Jones. Her mother is Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire), who was obviously raised in a completely different way, and to reconcile this is certainly a task also for her.

Barbara Sukowa"I think there are a lot of confusing feelings in her. I think it's probably for the first time that Jones has really a lot of emotional stuff running around her system, and she has to come to terms with that. She has her work, and now she has a living daughter.

"I mean, it even makes her want to live more. This season there were times, as you might have realized, where she didn't value her life that much anymore, and now all of a sudden that has changed because now she has a family.

"It's really amazing all the things that happen to the characters in this season. It's of epic dimensions what's happening to the character."
