Game of Thrones 3.1 Review: “Valar Dohaeris”
By John Keegan and Gregg Wright
Game of Thrones has a lot of characters; a whole lot of characters. As a consequence, there are even some characters who remain invisible in this season opener. It’s no wonder the episodes are set to each be a tiny bit longer this year than the last. I don’t envy the job of condensing everything in the books down to television size, but so far, the writers seem to be pulling it off. As far as I can tell the reception from TV fans and book fans seems as positive as ever. I don’t think that’s likely to change anytime soon.

Exonerated (but secretly guilty) killer Colin Sweeney returns to wreak creepy havoc on this show. He’s just a little more interesting than the show’s other long-term client, Lemond Bishop, but it can only go so far. The guy oozes creep, if that’s somehow possible from a person, and seems to delight in getting away with whatever he can. So yes, once again, the outcome of the Case of the Week is going to favor Lockhart-Gardner. It has occurred in nearly every episode so I really shouldn’t harp on it, but it does rob whatever tension the episode has in its favor.

Whenever I see any kind of mainstream show, even a genre one, take on gamer culture in any significant way, especially MMORPGs, I get nervous. Even shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation couldn’t seem to wrap their brains around the notion that gamers aren’t just young, slovenly wrecks living in their parents’ basement. A lot of gamers these days are the folks sitting in the office. Most of the population under the age of 45 grew up with some kind of video gaming as a perfectly normal part of life.

The Vampire Diaries 4.18 Review: “American Gothic”
By John Keegan
With the backdoor pilot for The Originals coming quite soon, I suppose it was time to set up the impending visit to New Orleans. I figured that’s where the various folks seeking out the cure would end up looking for Katherine, but instead, Elena finds her in the middle of a small town, where she has set herself up rather well as the semi-invisible mistress. And she’s not alone.

Revolution 1.11 Review: “The Stand”
By John Keegan
I can’t be the only one who saw the title for this episode and immediately thought of the Stephen King novel, hoping against hope that the series was going to take an abrupt left turn and kill off most of the cast. It’s hard to argue against the notion of making this a very different show. The writers take a few steps in more promising directions, but in the process, they throw in a plot twist that makes the entire fall run of the show seem pointless.

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys
The return to Storybrooke’s earliest days, just after The Curse took hold, has been much ballyhooed, with its promise of revisiting some characters left by the wayside. (Well, actually, based on fan response, the main attraction was the Huntsman/Sheriff Graham.) Coming on the heels of Cora’s demise, it fills in another major gap in Regina’s story and establishes exactly what life in Storybrooke was like before Henry lured Emma to town.

Syfy's new series Defiance premieres April 15, however the Trion game will be released tomorrow. The television series revolves around Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) and Irisa, an Irathient (Stephanie Leonidas), as they end up in the city of Defiance, where the Pale Wars were fought. In this near future, multiple alien races, called collectively the Votans, have come to Earth after their solar system was destroyed. The Votans and the humans attempt to live together harmoniously after they refused to continue to fight and lose innocent lives during the war. However, of course, life in Defiance is less then easy, as Nolan and Irisa will soon find out.
The game, by Trion Worlds, will feature some of the characters from the series. Some events will crossover between the two formats. In the game you can choose to play as a human or Irathient, with possibly more options coming later. The massive multiplayer online game will be different from others because of the way it ties into the show. It's quite a unique experience.
The executive producer and showrunner of the series, Kevin Murphy, along with Trion's VP of development, Nathan Richardsson, recently talked to the media about both the series and the game.
