FROM's "These Fragile Lives" Ends in a Shocking Death
***The following is review/breakdown followed by a detailed recap of episode 307 of FROM, “These Fragile Lives,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***
This week’s episode, “These Fragile Lives,” once again has some scenes that are more about character development and moving the story forward as opposed to the actual mystery, but three of the main storylines of the episode are integral to the puzzle that is the show.
The first storyline which is a big part of the mystery is of course with Fatima, and it does weave into some of the others stories in the episode.
The episode picks back up with Fatima at the clinic, and it’s clear that she is the only one that actually believes she’s pregnant. They all are thinking it’s in her head, no matter what they pretend otherwise.
In the next scene, when Kristi and Boyd argue over the pregnancy, I can see both points of view. Kristi can’t help Fatima if she doesn’t know what is going on, but at the same time, Boyd is right, it wasn’t his place to tell her; it was up to Fatima and Ellis. Boyd though, as per usual lately is getting way too angry. How can he expect her to know what to do if he doesn’t himself? She may have medical training, but nothing is normal where they are.
Fatima is quick to anger when Marielle tries to help her, though I do understand why, because she doesn’t think anyone believes her, and to be fair, they don’t. I do think though that there might be something to Marielle’s words, that fear can only break you if you let it. Out of the three, Marielle, Julie, and Randall, she seems to be the only one who isn’t being affected all the time by what happened. The show has hinted in the past that perhaps fears become real or what is spoken could potentially come true (such as Kenny talking about losing two parents, etc). The question is, is she really not affected, or is she just much better at hiding it than the others?

FROM's "Scar Tissue" Brings Both Character Growth & New Questions
***The following is review/breakdown followed by a detailed recap of episode 306 of FROM, “Scar Tissue,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***
The episode had a few really important scenes when it came to the mystery, but most of the episode was more just about moving the story forward.
The episode opens with Tabitha and Jim arguing. This scene really highlights that Jim is doing a very bad job parenting. He acts like it was so difficult for him to take care of the kids when she was only gone a few days, which she points out, but even in those few days, Jim did not take care of his kids. He ran off, more than once, even if it was to go after Tabitha. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel that Tabitha should have left originally either, but the kids weren’t alone when she left. Jim repeatedly left Julie to take care of Ethan alone, and in fact Ethan almost died in the first episode when he ran out at night when they were once again, alone. I did enjoy, however, Tabitha yelling at him for it, even if she hasn’t been the world’s best mother either. It sounds like from what Julie said before that neither of them were really around after Thomas died. We do in the scene get a bit more insight though into how Tabitha is still affected by the town meeting from the episode before. I did also enjoy when they are screaming, and you hear the creature scream from outside. Julie thankfully was just over it and is letting her mother know that they are affected by their arguments, and this time probably everyone heard them. Even Ethan is aware they are having issues.
There is a very interesting conversation with Jade and Boyd at the bar while he’s talking about the numbers from the bottle tree. It’s always great when characters share information, and I love seeing Jade trying to piece it together, because I always feel like he represents the fans trying to figure out the series. Jade says that it is possible that the place Tabitha went to in Maine occupies the same space as the lighthouse and that it’s not so much as a wormhole but a dimensional rift. This theory actually could hold some weight, especially because there are two bottle trees in the real world like there are in the town, which makes me think they are in the same place as well. If you think about what happened to Dale, it’s the same thing: two objects in the same space, but he got stuck on the way. I am also very curious if the one bottle tree in Maine, the one Tabitha and Henry never made it to, could have possibly been a faraway tree in the real world, but at this point we may never know.

FROM's "The Light of Day:" Boyd's Anger is Justified with a Gruesome Ending

While not quite as fast paced as last week, the story did move forward in the fifth episode. Throughout it, the pressure is clearly becoming worse for Boyd as he snaps at everyone around him, although usually with good reason. I feel like as much as everyone looks to Boyd for the answers, with both not dealing well with the food crisis, and then what happened to Tian Chen, people may have become less apt to trust his plans without question, which is really shown throughout the episode, starting with Randall.
When Randall is brought in with his face sliced up, everyone as usual seems to look to Boyd, but I think it shifts a bit when he starts screaming that it’s his fault and that he left him out there. Boyd’s not infallible, and I think this episode really highlights that.
During all this, Jade, as usual, wants answers and puts himself in the middle of what’s happening and ignores Jim as he tries to kick him out. A lot of people questioned why Jim didn’t go to look for his wife at the tree that Victor took her to, and apparently he did, which he explains to Jade. The exposition at least clears that up, although I feel like it should have been mentioned a lot sooner, since Tabitha was missing for half of the season. Jade is annoyed that he thought it wasn’t relevant. Jim just says the place is great at messing with their heads, which is pretty much a 180 for Jim, because before he was the one taking risks to get answers, like with the radio, but he finally seems to be more worried about his family, as he should be. One can only wonder how long it will last before he does something else questionable. At any rate, Jade knows that people besides him will be demanding answers, and with the meeting on the horizon, it seems likely.

FROM’s “There and Back Again:” A Gory & Satisfying Setup for What’s to Come
***The following is review/breakdown followed by a detailed recap of episode 304 of FROM, “There and Back Again,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***
Tonight’s episode of FROM really ramped up the action once again and didn’t stop. This week the stories finally converge with Tabitha returning to the town, but of course nothing can ever be easy on FROM.
From inside the town, we have the phone call, with whoever is on the other end now talking to Ethan and not just Jim. This is where it’s hard to tell if whoever or whatever it is sometimes wants to help, is just pushing its own agenda, or really just wants to screw with them so no one knows what to think. The fact that “Thomas” told Ethan that his mother was coming could have been taken as a good thing, but perhaps it was also because they knew he or Jim would run out and they wanted more deaths and chaos.
Meanwhile, Colony House is dealing with the aftermath of the crow, and I question who actually cleaned it up. Bakta refused to do it. Did Nicky end up picking up the bird? It wasn’t actually shown, but her death later in the episode makes me wonder if perhaps the bad omen was also for her. I do however think, as Tilly seems to point out, that it’s likely pointing to a bad sign for Fatima and her baby as well.
We get some nice scenes with Victor and Sara in this episode which I really liked and understand why Victor chose her to share his story with. We don’t really get a whole lot of information beyond what we already know in the end, however, during these scenes. The main takeaway is that Victor wants to find Jasper the dummy, who we’ve seen previously on the series.

FROM's "Mouse Trap" Ends in a Shocking Twist
***The following is review/breakdown followed by a detailed recap of episode 303 of FROM, “Mouse Trap,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***
Although there isn’t as much heartbreak in the episode this week, the plot is still moving fairly quickly. It’s clear from the beginning of the episode that the town is still screwing with everyone, in this case, Jim. I don’t think Jim would have any reason to believe anything different than that is their intent. Even if his son Thomas were still alive, he would not be old enough to call him in the first place, though this clearly would still be painful for him. The voice basically threatens his other children as well, of course, which makes it all worse. I appreciated though that he’s not listening to the voice and brushed it off quickly. I do think the person (?) on the other end fulfilled their purpose, however, because Jim is becoming very irritable and snapping at his children, whether he believes it or not.
A big part of the episode is what Boyd is planning, wanting to capture one of the monsters, which he mentioned to his son in the last episode. The biggest problem with this is he has no plan. We know the town is trying to break him, and it seems to be working somewhat in the sense that it’s getting him to act rashly, but thankfully, at least for the time being, his son and Donna seem to have calmed him down. This thread is picked back up, however, towards the end of the episode when he goes onto the bus with Randall and intends to watch the creatures. Hopefully he will watch them first and then formulate a plan before he follows through with trying to capture one.
As an aside, I did also want to mention that two people in the episode, Jim and the bus driver, asked Boyd if things were going to get worse, which makes me think there is a good chance that they probably are.
