In the film Protector, which premieres today in theaters, Milla Jovovich stars as Nikki, a veteran war hero who thought she left her violent past behind her on the battlefield, but her peaceful life is upended when her daughter, Chloe (Isabel Myers), is kidnapped by a human trafficking ring, and she must venture into the city’s criminal underworld to find and save her. As she tears through the crime syndicate using her training, leaving a trail of death in her wake, her mission becomes even more difficult as she attracts the attention of the police and military and must avoid them in her pursuit. As the local authorities, led by Captain Michaels (D.B. Sweeney), try to bring her in, Nikki’s former commanding officer (Matthew Modine) sums it up: he doesn’t need to protect Nikki from the criminals; he needs to protect them from her.

In a recent interview with SciFi Vision, Jovovich and Meyers opened up about what drew them to the project.

“[W]hen I got this script, it really resonated with me as a parent,” Jovovich told the site. “To be a mother of three girls and to know how human trafficking is such a problem, that it just keeps growing.”

The actress added that she felt like no one was making movies about the topic. “That's why I wanted to come in as a producer,” explained Jovovich, saying that it wasn’t just about streamlining the script. “[It was also to] make sure that once I was done filming as an actor, I had control of how the rest of the movie was going to be edited, scored, color graded, just to make sure that the subject matter was dealt with in the most sort of respectful way possible.”

Jovovich also liked that even though the film has violence and is exciting, it also has “heart and soul”.

In K-Pops!, washed-up LA musician BJ (multiple Grammy-winning Anderson .Paak), who spends his days playing gigs at the local bar, dreams of something better. When his mother’s boyfriend, Cash (Jonnie Park), helps BJ land a job as a drummer for a K-pop competition house band, he makes the move to Seoul, South Korea, hoping to revive his career. There, he works with Cash's aunt Diamond (Cathy Shim), who hosts the series. When he meets the young competitors, however, he finds that the son he never knew about is a contestant. While still harboring a bruised heart from his complicated past relationship with the boy’s mother (Jee Young Han), he tries to capitalize on his son (Soul Rasheed)’s rising fame. But along the way, he starts to bond with his son and discovers that there is more to life than chasing stardom.

In Honey Bunch, Diana (Grace Glowicki) wakes up from a coma after an accident with fragmented memories. Her husband, Homer (Ben Petrie), drives her to a remote trauma facility where experimental treatments promise to rebuild her mind piece by piece. As her memories begin to surface in fragments that don’t always match with Homer’s stories about their great love, she’s left with a sense that something is off. As her memories start to come back together one by one, their marriage is put to the test, and she begins to question his true motivation.

In Worldbreaker, when a rift called The Stitch tore open the world and otherworldly creatures from beneath the surface called Breakers were released, they infected their victims, twisting them into killers. Almost all of the men, who were especially susceptible, fell first, and civilizations collapsed, leaving the fight for survival up to the women. When Willa (Billie Boullet)’s mother (Milla Jovovich), one of the fiercest warriors, returns to fight, her father (Luke Evan’s), scarred by battle, takes her to a remote island to train her to survive and fight. Everything changes when a girl drifts ashore and Willa secretly harbors her. Infected, the girl draws the Breakers, and their peace is shattered, forcing them to fight if they want to survive.

The Confession star, Italia Ricci joined SciFi Vision for an exclusive interview about her role as Naomi in the supernatural horror thriller film released in January.

Italia plays a widowed mother of one son, Dylan, who moves back to her deceased father’s home in Texas after experiencing fame in California. Her son, Dylan, played by Zachary Golinger shares that he is experiencing weird happenings in the house.  Naomi explores what could be behind the events happening in the house.

Children in supernatural and horror films seem to bring the creep factor. Ricci agrees and says that having children in these types of movies, especially now that she is a mother, she doesn't want anything that makes your skin crawl. Even in real life having an unusual experience when her and her husband were watching tv and on the baby monitor saw their son was sitting up in his bed in the middle of the night. He appeared to be still sleeping, and he started swaying for a minute, and they joked whether they should call an exorcist. She also says it goes for animals, as well. She does not like when things that shouldn’t exist in reality and are doing things that naturally they would not do in whatever story it is.

She also is creeped out over the randomness of crimes. Her favorite scary movie is The Strangers, because they terrorize and murder a couple in a cabin for no good reason, and it stays with her, because it doesn’t make any sense and can’t be prevented or controlled. Anything beyond control is terrifying to her.

The film, which is based on the second game in the franchise, is now in theaters.

Recently, Irvine spoke to SciFi Vision about working on the film, including his love for the game, the difficulties in being in almost every scene, and more, even touching a bit on Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Return to Silent Hill is based on the second game in the franchise and is now in theaters.

Return to Silent Hill, which premieres today in theaters, is based on the second game in the franchise and was directed by Christophe Gans. The film follows James (Jeremy Irvine), who is a broken man after he and the love of his life, Mary (Hannah Emily Anderson), end their relationship. When he receives a letter from her, he returns to the mysterious town of Silent Hill, transformed by an unspeakable evil. While searching for Mary, he encounters many terrifying creatures as well as a familiar looking woman (also Anderson) and a young girl, Laura (Evie Templeton). The further James ventures into the town the more terrifying secrets he uncovers that all lead to one horrible truth.

Recently, Anderson and Templeton spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the film, including how it was for Anderson to play multiple characters, how it was different for Templeton working on the film compared to the remake of the game when she played the same character, what it was like working with the costumes, and more.

In Mercy, which premieres in theaters on Friday, in the near future, Detective Chris Raven (Chris Pratt) is accused of murdering his wife and stands on trial, the judge the artificial intelligence he championed, Judge Maddox (Rebecca Furguson). With no memory of what happened before he woke up in the Mercy Chair, he is given 90 minutes to comb through all available surveillance footage to prove his innocence. However, if he’s found guilty, he will be executed instantly.

SciFi Vision recently spoke with star Chris Pratt about being restrained in the chair and how it both helped and hindered his ability to portray the detective. “The sense of claustrophobia, the sense of feeling trapped, being isolated in a room, a cavernous space, this cacophonous volume that I was confronted by, nothing other than digital screens, that's what my character's going through,” he explained, adding that it was similar to what he himself was going through as he filmed the scenes.

Pratt was joined by director Timur Bekmambetov who explained that although Pratt was in the chair for a large portion of the film, there is also a lot of evidence around him on the screen. “[It’s] a full of action, full of events of his life, because he's in the chair, but all his backstories are around him, and we see him fighting, chasing,” said the director.

“[I]t's very much an action forward film,” added Pratt. “Just, rather than being the person who's perpetrating the action, I'm sort of subject to witnessing the action along with the audience.”

Dead Man’s Wire, which opened in theaters nationwide over the weekend, tells the true story of Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård), who in 1977 walked into the office of the president of the Meridan Mortgage Company and kidnapped Richard ‘Dick’ Hall (Dacre Montgomery) with a sawed-off shotgun, with a dead man’s wire attached to the trigger and his own neck. The spectacle of the standoff quickly became a media frenzy.

Recently, Cary Elwes, who plays the role of Michael Grable in the film, spoke with SciFi Vision about wanting to work with director Gus Van Sant, using research to create Grable, costumes, and more.
