DVD Review: "Teen Wolf" Season 2 - Just as Much Bite

Teen Wolf Season 2Teen Wolf may have started as a reimagining of the film of the same name, but it's easy to tell very early on that it was a lot different than it's predecessor. The story follows werewolf Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), as he learns what it means to be a werewolf, and deals with all the problems it creates, including having to hide his relationship with Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) from her family, who happen to be werewolf hunters.

The second season focuses on the new supernatural threat, the Kanima, who can paralyze victims with the toxin in its nails. Scott and his friends try to figure out who the new creature is, as well as who is directing it to kill, all while also dealing with whatever is going on with Lydia, new werewolves, and a new werewolf hunter, who is even more of a threat than they have encountered previously.

Revolution 1.20 Review: “The Dark Tower”

By John Keegan and James Graham

RevolutionIconWell, it’s finally over. Twenty episodes in, the first season of Revolution has mercifully come to an end. Not long after the airing of the previous episode, it was announced that Ben Edlund was joining the writing crew of Revolution. Widely regarded as one of the strongest writers in the Supernatural stable, it seems that he was brought over by Eric Kripke to help do damage control and set Revolution back on the road to success.

Mad Men 6.10 Review: “A Tale of Two Cities”

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

mad_menThe early part of the 1960?s decade depicted California as this laid-back, sunny paradise that functioned as a getaway from the hardships of business. It wasn’t thought of as a serious place to do anything that would be core to American business. The land of Hollywood motion pictures and Disneyland, with New York described as “the center of the universe” according to experts like Roger. We are approaching the end of the decade, and times are getting to be tumultuous seemingly by every progressing day.

Game of Thrones 3.9 Review: “The Rains of Castamere”

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

Game_of_Thrones_icon“The Red Wedding”. Ice and Fire readers dreaded it (or anticipated it, I suppose). Unsuspecting viewers were shocked by it. Other stuff happened in the episode, but there’s really no talking about any of that until I’ve gotten my thoughts on that final scene out of the way. Given that it’s easily the most shocking moment of the show (perhaps even the most shocking television moment I’ve ever experienced), it’s not surprising that the reaction to it has been heavily polarizing. Fans of the books seem generally pleased with how it was handled in the show. It was probably a smart move to bring in veteran television director David Nutter to helm this episode, and he does so with considerable skill.

Merlin 5.13 Review: “The Diamond of the Day: Part II”

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

merlinIt is with great reluctance that I write this final review for Merlin. For most people, the show ended as soon as the credits roll, but it doesn’t really feel like it’s over for me until I’ve written this review. But the show really is over, although I have heard talk of a possible spin-off. I don’t quite know what to make of that, but I’ll speculate a bit more about that later. Right now, let’s talk about the finale itself. I’ll begin by comparing my expectations for the finale with the reality of it.

Once Upon a Time 2.21/2.22 Review: “Second Star to the Right”/”Straight On ‘Til Morning”

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

once_upon_a_timeOnce Upon A Time concludes its second season with two episodes linked in title, but wildly divergent in quality. They serve as a microcosm of the whole uneven season, and confirm a trend that became apparent in the latter part of the season. Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are very comfortable crafting stories for this wild, wacky, throw-ideas-at-the-wall-until-something-sticks world they’ve created. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to bring the rest of the writers room on board, which really is part of their job description.
