Early Review: "Warehouse 13" Season 4 Premiere

By Jamie Ruby

Warehouse 13The most watched series in Syfy history, Warehouse 13, returns tonight for its fourth season. The series follows a team of government agents, Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), who work at a top-secret government facility which is home to mysterious artifacts. They along with caretaker Artie Nielsen (Saul Rubinek) and Claudia Donovan (Allison Scagliotti) track down and return artifacts to the Warehouse.

Warehouse 13The premiere picks up where the series last left off: the team dealing with the destruction of the Warehouse and the deaths of Steve Jinks (Aaron Ashmore), Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder), and H.G. Wells (Jaime Murray). Artie, Pete, Myka, and Claudia have to make a choice of whether or not to find and use an artifact and deal with the consequences.

Warehouse 13As Rubinek said in a recent interview, it's obvious that there can't be a Warehouse 13 without a Warehouse, so the episode is about the team trying to fix what happened.

The episode is definitely darker, as evidently the rest of the season will be, but it still has its lighter moments. The end of the episode, however, does leave quite a bit changed, possibly irrevocably so. It is nice to see the show taking chances and not just wrapping everything up easily with an artifact.

Warehouse 13The acting in the episode was great as usual for the series, and I don't think it's a spoiler to say that you should bring a tissue. After all, at the end of last season, three characters passed.

Brent Spiner guest stars starting in the premiere and his character I believe will be a good addition.

I'm also intrigued to see how the season will continue after the events following the premiere. Usually the series is generally procedural, and it's nice to see it bringing in more serialized elements.

There isn't a lot I can say without giving anything away, but I will say that the writers did an excellent job of wrapping up the cliffhanger from last season, yet leaving it open for new episodes, and it leaves you hungry for more.

You can catch the premiere of Warehouse 13 tonight on Syfy.
