Being Human US 3.13 Review: “Ruh Roh”

By John Keegan

Being-Human-icon-being-human-us-17425916-150-150As Being Human US closes out its third season, the future couldn’t be more unclear. The show has struggled in the ratings all season long, as has the entire Monday night lineup on Syfy, and given the very tight operating constraints of the network (and their subsequent willingness to cancel shows), Being Human fans have cause to be concerned.

Game of Thrones 3.2 Review: “Dark Wings, Dark Words”

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

Game_of_Thrones_iconIn the first season of Game of Thrones, magic was largely a background element; not especially integral to the plot and largely unseen by most characters. Then there was the somewhat game-changing season finale, wherein Dany’s dragons were born. From that point, the second season made it more of a prominent element, and incorporated it much more heavily into the plot. The third season looks to be taking that trend even further, while presumably not sacrificing the more grounded, human elements that really make the show what it is.

Mad Men 6.1/6.2 Review: “The Doorway”

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

mad_menThe specter of death hangs all over this episode. Unlike last season, where the winds of change were a clear threat, death has been present at least since Lane Pryce hanged himself in the offices of SCDP. That happened almost a year ago by the show’s chronology, yet there are many overt signs present now in the premiere. It’s also interesting to me that the episode takes place at the beginning of 1968, with several characters (and even a newspaper headline) noting that the country had just gotten through a violent summer to start anew in another year. They have no idea what is in store for them. It’s going to be tumultuous, though the premiere doesn’t offer any hints of that. It will unfold as the season goes along. We’ll just be content to go along with all of the main characters on their journey through their lives and jobs. For all the talk about how the wave of change is coming, the premiere makes it feel like many of these people are at a standstill, though. That has to be a major concern going forward.

Idol Burnell on His Future After "American Idol"

By Jamie Ruby

Burnell TaylorLast week America said good bye to Burnell Taylor. The 19 year old from New Orleans recently talked to the digital media about his departure from American Idol and his future.

Taylor told SciFi Vision about his favorite part of being on Idol and how it motivated him. "My favorite part of the season was the fact that it allowed me to grow. It really allowed me to lose the weight. There are things that I never would have done if I wasn't on the show. The show motivated me to do a lot of things, and I'm thankful and blessed that I was even in this position."

The singer also talked to the site about some of his challenges on Idol. "Well, of course, the themes are very challenging. I guess I have to say that, because some of the times we don't know all the songs. We always want to pick the best songs, so that could be a challenge. It's a good challenge, too. It's a good challenge."

Taylor also discussed what kind of album he plans to make. "[For] my album, I want to make captivating music, period...because there's only a few that you can play from the beginning to the end without any skips. I just want to be a storyteller and I want to be as personal as I can get. You know, just be honest, that's what the industry, I feel, is missing today. I want to create that link for other people to feel comfortable with..."
